Non-Public Transportation Parent Reimbursement Request

Under Iowa law, public schools are required to provide transportation services to eligible resident non-public students. For K-8 students, families are eligible if they live more than two miles away from the non-public school of attendance. For 9-12 students, families are eligible if they live more than three miles away from the non-public school of attendance. Mileage entered into this form may be validated when the claim is processed.

Des Moines Independent Community School District makes one payment to parents claiming non-public transportation following the end of the current school year for all claims made during the school year. Under Iowa Code, the state provides payments to community school districts in the summer, after the school year ends. The district then prepares payments to parents, based on the amount received from the state. Final payment to parents claiming non-public transportation reimbursement occurs no later than August 31 for the preceding school year.

Each school year, parents must submit one request for fall semester reimbursement by the deadline and one request for spring semester reimbursement by the deadline. Parents cannot submit one reimbursement request for the entire year. Reimbursement requests are ONLY accepted online (through this form); paper forms, email requests, phone requests, etc. are NOT accepted.
